Indesign album flow9/4/2023 Photoshop doesn’t allow much play with sizing images without losing resolution. This can cut into other valuable time that is needed for other aspects of your business or your social life. The files become big and your computer starts to chug, and it can slow down your album design process to a crawl. The problem I find with Photoshop is having multiple photos and design elements in one spread, can make each of your files huge! Imagine having a couple files open at a time to make changes to your album. I come across many forums and have been part of many conversations where people think that Photoshop is the best way for you to design an album because you can manipulate your photos right in the layout and it’s a program that you are very familiar with. I can export the files as multiple page PDF’s or JPG’s, which is accepted at most album print labs.If I was to do this in Photoshop, I would have to rename all of my files in the order I want, which is time consuming. If I want to change around the order of the pages, I simply drag and drop the pages into order in the InDesign file.If you decide that you need to manipulate one of your photos using another program, once saved, it automatically re-links your updated image in your InDesign file. When you export the file, it creates a full-resolution version of your images without any damage done to the photos. As opposed to Photoshop, InDesign allows you to scale up or down your image as much as you want without losing any resolution. When exported, it creates the full resolution file with high quality photos and graphics. This makes the files smaller and faster to work with. When I place images in my document, it places a low resolution version of the photo into the file and links it to the original photo. This makes it easy for me to see the flow of my design, move images around from one spread to another, and most importantly able to see how the story is unfolding. When I create my document, I can create the entire album in one file. The program is designed to be a layout tool and there are many benefits to using this program. InDesign is an amazing program that makes creating layouts easy, efficient and consistent. I’m not going to promote one over the other, but rather, share MY process of creating custom album design, to show the benefits of using both InDesign and Photoshop in the same album. The trick, here, is to view each spread in isolation and as a part of the whole. When it comes to album design, there are always questions that pop up about which programs are best when creating layouts. Layout for Story Flow: Once you have a carefully curated selection of photographs, the next challenge lies in deciding how many pictures go on each spread, in which order and in what priority. Well, maybe not ignore completely – but choose images with people in it who mean something to you and ignore the urge to try and just “fit” everyone in! Photo Selection & Curation: This is one task which can be really vexing as you will be tempted to select everything, but to get a good story out of it, try to only choose the pictures which you absolutely love (that means, you can ignore all the uncles and aunties you don’t like). The main challenge lies in photo curation and the story flow. Nowadays the design of your wedding album is also completely in your hands so you can decide what you want and who all you want in it. Reminding you of your story every time you go through it. Well, that’s what the wedding album is for. If you are looking for the answers to all your questions then look no further! #1 Remember, it’s all about the story So, if you are a couple or a photographer, designing albums is one job that can leave many of you confused and wondering what’s the best way to do it. With progress in printing technologies and design, albums today are more like a coffee table book and are capable of telling a very different kind of story. Remember, our parents’ wedding album? How it was all about the stage pictures and other “posed” photos - and how the album was made by inserting every picture in the space provided? Just like our memories evolve, so have the the way we save them. Similarly, the way we preserve our memories has also changed. Looking back at a memory reminds us of how much one has changed as a person this evolution is a part of life.
